North East Div III Rugby Championship
MONTAUK RFC, SYRACUSE RFC, (ROCHESTER RFC or MAD RIVER
STOWE RFC), (DANBURY RFC or MARSHFIELD RFC) will play for the Northeast Division
III championship on HERRICK IN PARK EAST HAMPTON Saturday APRIL
16th and Sunday April17th, 2005. Games will be played at 12 and 2pm each day (4 games in
total).
Last Fall Montauk RFC qualified as the top
seed from the Metropolitan New York Rugby Football Union for the Northeast Div
III finals. Montauk had a fantastic season culminating in a comprehensive win
over Danbury at home to secure a birth in the North East Championship.
Syracuse the other top seed won the Upstate New York Union
competition securing the other guaranteed birth to the finals.
Rochester, Mad River Stowe, and Danbury, Marshfield, will play
April 9th to
confirm the last two teams to compete in the championship games on April
16th and
17th.
The tournament, to be held on Herrick Park in East Hampton, will
run over 2 days, Montauk who have been seeded 2nd for the tournament will play one of the
winners of the previous weekends games (ROCHESTER RFC or MAD RIVER STOWE RFC),
(DANBURY RFC or MARSHFIELD RFC) in what will effectively be a semifinal match up
before the finals. The final will be
played on Sunday April 17th at 2pm on Herrick
Park, to be followed by a prize giving party
to be held at Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett at 5pm, featuring Live Music from
Great Caesars Ghost (www.greatcaesarsghost.com), food and drinks.
The final will crown the North East Div III Champion. This team
then travels to Omaha, Nebraska in May to compete at the Elite 8 competition.
The Elite 8 competition pits teams from all over the country against one another
in an attempt to find the "Final Four". Teams that win in Nebraska then head to
the Final Four Tournament which will be held in San Diego, California in early
June.
