A FEW MORE NOTES FROM THE VP
We all know what an effort it was to put this past weekend together and make it the success that it was. A number of us took valuable time off from work during the week to make sure the fields were up to championship standards. Your help was greatly appreciated. The goal posts, which arrived only 10 days before show time, were our biggest challenge since they required a footing 24 in. in diameter and 4 feet in depth. That's a half a yard of concrete bub! So we had to dig some holes and pour some concrete. Doug Mac Carthy and Kieth Bunce get the golden shovel award. (No not that shovel). Borowski, Johnny Ryan, Jay, Sasson, Gordie, Ron, Craig and of course Paul, all pitched in and made it happen. Frank even stopped by and helped out. But as players we get to reap the friuts of our labor. There were a few other folks who were instrumental in this project, and they should be mentioned. It looked as if we were going to have to wheelbarrow in all the concrete from the parking lot. One call to Jack Whitmore and he was ready to supply us with as many men as we needed, with wheel barrows! Guys, this is a landscaper in the middle of spring ready to help us out. Jacks generosity was not needed though, because Robert Schmitter made a special trip to Happauge(yeah that's right Happauge) to register his new Mini Mixer which holds 2 yards of concrete, (see photo gallery) which we were able to drive right up to the holes and fill. Badda Bing! Okay now it's Friday night, beer-thirty, and we have to put the uprights up. Risking life and limb (right Ron?) atop three stages of scaffold it came together with Paul leading the charge and Gordie directing. Then, while we slept, the water gods, in a Rhett's landscaping truck, came down and dowsed the pitch thoroughly. Then, the next morning, Rhett rearranged his schedule so that he could give it another dose. These guys all went out of their way just to help us out. If you see them, don't forget to thank them.
